Stress, habitual and repetitive patterns of movement, periods of physical inactivity (sedentary-ism), injury, surgery, athletic endeavors, and gravity can cause a misalignment in your body. Your body develops compensatory patterns to accommodate your desired movement. This may affect the shape and structure of the connective tissues in the body, resulting in tight and shortened muscles, fascia, and reduced organ function. This inefficiency and imbalance produces stiffness, discomfort, pain and decreased energy levels. This decrease in energy causes tiredness, limits your ability to deal effectively with stressful situations, and compromises your immune system.
When we do not effectively deal with our emotions they show up in our body, personality, and the way we interact with others. The body is where the mind and emotions meet. When we experience something dramatic and our mind is not ready or able to process what is happening our bodies will hold these emotions in trust until we are ready to experience them. These show up as issues in your tissues. They may show up as fatigue or muscle soreness, chronic muscle tension, increased sensations of pain, decreased energy, impaired immune function, increased inflammation, weight gain, and poor sleep.

What is Lokahi FIT?
Lokahi is the interconnection of body, mind, spirit and world. This is how balance is acquired. Without any one of these four elements, balance is impossible. By changing the fascia through massage and integrating fluid, graceful movements and powerful poses of yoga accompanied you develop Lokahi.
Massage: Your program includes massage techniques to address structural misalignment, dysfunction and pain, stretches to lengthen tight muscles and strengthening exercises to strengthen weak muscles using a combination of modalities such as clinical orthopedic massage, pressure point therapy, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, passive yoga therapy, joint manipulation/stimulation, compression and stretching done using hands, elbows, flutes, knees and feet. This is Fascia Integration Therapy.
Yoga: Attendance in yoga classes is an important component of this program. Not only does it provide a community to discuss what you are feeling and experiencing in your body, it provides support and another point of contact to ensure continuity and adaptation during this transformation and alignment process. In the yoga classes you learn about your body and how to align it in gravity, in the poses and through movement. You recognize and celebrate your body’s abilities. You learn about your Self.
Restorative yoga: This is a unique class of “active relaxation”. Props such as blankets, bolsers, balls, and sandbags are used to stimulate the body’s parasympathetic response. This is the “rest and digest” nervous system. Poses are held passively for 5-10 minutes allowing for deep release of tension. The focus of this gentle practice is to create a foundation of relaxation resonating into all aspects of your life.

About Me: My experience with surgery and misalignment has been many. I experienced many mishaps as a very active and competitive child. I was involved in soccer, volleyball, track and skiing. I have had 13 surgeries since 2005. One of which resulted in a tissue transplant. I have experienced the depths of hell, being racked with pain, frustration, depression and anger. I also know what it takes to get out of it. It was through my yoga practice that I kept my mind active. Although I was limited in the physical aspect, I practiced nonetheless within the confines of my limited ability, often experiencing pain and discomfort, but nothing like what I was experiencing being completely sedentary. I received weekly massages with my rehabilitation sessions. I was able to take an active part in designing and developing the exercises that would be most beneficial to my desired outcome. I tenaciously completed the homework exercises to improve my flexibility and strength.
I am a unique breed. I am a licensed massage therapist with extensive clinical rehabilitative knowledge from both the receiving and the giving side. As I completed a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science I worked as a physical therapy aide at Jordan Valley Hospital. I was also the Aquatic Specialist, designing and implementing rehabilitation programs for clients requiring aquatic therapy. I am certified in multiple massage and fitness modalities. Massage therapy techniques and modalities used include: clinical orthopedic massage, deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point and Thai yoga therapy. Fitness certifications include: ACE Personal Trainer, ACE Group Fitness Instructor, Yoga Alliance – Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional. I am also certified in two evidence based fitness programs.
The combination of massage and yoga are Lokahi FIT.
